GET TO KNOW THE PLACE

A little more about Cascate del Mulino.

Cascate del Mulino is the free waterfall bathing area near Saturnia, where warm water flows over natural terraces beside an old mill. It is a different visit from the nearby paid thermal park or resort spring lake.

The waterfall pools are separate from the paid Terme di Saturnia resort. Rock surfaces can be slippery; bring water shoes and pack out everything you bring.

Is this your kind of spring?

Official sources reviewed 2026-10-17 · Editorial recommendations

Choose the waterfalls for free bathing in natural terraces. Choose a separately booked thermal facility if changing facilities, predictable pool access and managed amenities matter more than the wild setting. The word Saturnia is used for several different experiences.

A good fit for

  • Travellers who want free outdoor bathing
  • Visitors comfortable with natural rock pools and limited confirmed amenities
  • A Tuscany road trip with flexible timing

Consider another option for

  • Visitors who require verified step-free entry into a pool
  • Anyone expecting a staffed resort included with free waterfall access
  • Travellers needing guaranteed lockers, showers or private changing

The free waterfalls and the resort are different places

Visit Tuscany identifies Cascate del Mulino as free outdoor thermal waterfalls fed by the Gorello stream. Terme di Saturnia sells separate Hot Spring Pools and Club products; the latter includes the resort’s natural spring lake. A resort booking is not required simply because you want to see the free terraces. Conversely, free waterfall access does not include the paid pools, changing rooms or resort services. Navigate to the attraction you actually intend to visit.

Understand what the temperature describes

Our planning suggestion

The regional tourism authority reports sulphurous spring water at 37.5°C and describes year-round free access. This is not a live measurement of every terrace or confirmation that local conditions permit bathing today. Editorial suggestion: assess the approach and the water when you arrive, and keep your itinerary flexible if conditions are unsuitable. A year-round description should not be read as a live opening guarantee.

Check parking for your vehicle

The tourism itinerary describes parking around 100 metres from the springs for vehicles below 2.5 metres high, with larger motorhomes directed to equipped parking in Saturnia around one kilometre away and a shuttle connection. Those details are planning leads, not confirmation of current height restrictions, prices or shuttle operation. Check the current car-park signage and local information before relying on a space. Free bathing does not establish free parking.

When paying for a different facility can make sense

Our planning suggestion

The nearby resort’s day-spa page describes managed outdoor pools, whirlpools, vascular paths, sauna, changing rooms and showers. It separately lists items such as loungers, parasols and a wellness kit as extras. Editorial recommendation: compare the total cost and inclusions if you need those facilities. Do not assume the amenities or family policies of the paid complex also apply to the free waterfall terraces.

Prepare for a natural-pool visit

Our planning suggestion

Editorial planning checklist: bring swimwear, a towel, water and footwear that works on wet uneven ground. Keep valuables secure and take your rubbish away. If safe footing, assisted pool entry or nearby changing facilities determine whether the trip works, confirm those details locally before travelling; we have not verified them. Avoid promising your group a resort experience based on photographs of the terraces.

What we still need to confirm

These gaps are worth checking if they affect your trip.

  • Current parking charges and shuttle timetable
  • Live local restrictions, maintenance or temporary bathing closures
  • Verified toilets, showers, lockers and changing arrangements
  • An inspected accessible approach and pool-entry route
  • Current visitor crowd patterns and a recent review sample

Questions before you book

Do I need to buy a resort ticket for the waterfalls?

The regional tourism authority describes Cascate del Mulino as free. The nearby paid pool and Club products are separate experiences.

Does free access include parking and a locker?

Free bathing does not establish those inclusions. Current parking prices and waterfall facilities remain unconfirmed in this guide.

Is 37.5°C the temperature of every pool today?

No. It is the published spring-water figure, not a live measurement throughout the terraces.
