THE DETAILS BEHIND THE DESTINATIONS

Good guides have good sources.

A worldwide destination catalog.

Hot Spring Passport currently covers 1304 destinations in 54 countries. These include individual springs, thermal facilities and a small number of onsen or spa towns. They are labelled in each guide; a town listing is not a claim about every facility in that town.

Background information is sourced from Wikipedia and linked on each profile. Practical notes link to official operators, tourism boards or land managers. Coordinates are approximate destination points for orientation, not verified entrances or trailheads. This is a local catalog snapshot, not a live global inventory.

Research depth you can see.

16 destinations have detailed operator research; 1297 have additional directory facts. Each guide identifies its sources and review date. Directory-reported websites and policies are leads for planning, not independently verified operator information.

Full guides distinguish official rules, editorial recommendations, visitor reports and unresolved questions. We prioritize current entrances, ticket inclusions, booking requirements, age limits and specific accessible routes over broad claims that a place is family friendly or accessible.

How we use visitor reviews.

Where available, we summarize publicly visible visitor accounts in our own words and link to the original platform. We identify the sample and dates, include positive and negative themes, and do not turn anecdotes into verified facts. A qualitative sample is not a complete review analysis. We do not invent star ratings, claim a representative consensus or republish review text or reviewer identities.

Worldwide directory coverage.

All 1,300 listings from the 13 pages of the Hot Springs Guides map are included as of October 17, 2026, cross-checked against its sitemap. Existing profiles are preserved when a listing matches. Imported location and experience facts link to the source directory page. Destination photo galleries also link to their original source.

New directory records have not been independently verified. Unknown temperatures, fees, access and opening dates remain unconfirmed. A directory listing does not establish that bathing is permitted.

Temperatures, fees and access.

Water temperatures appear only where a figure has been recorded from a cited source. A source temperature is not the same as the temperature of a bathing pool. “Varies” means no comparable figure is recorded. Fees, opening hours and closures are not monitored in real time. Check the official source before travelling.

Accessibility and family policies differ by pool, path and facility. We do not infer wheelchair access or child suitability from the presence of visitor facilities.

Weather with a clear label.

The seven-day weather outlook on destination pages comes from Open-Meteo. It describes forecast air temperature and precipitation probability at the destination’s approximate coordinates. It is not a historical climate normal, water temperature measurement or access advisory.

Photography belongs to its creators.

Photographs are sourced from Hot Springs Guides, Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, destination operators, travel publishers and Esri World Imagery. Source credits and rights information are listed below. Imported publisher and operator photos retain their original rights; they are not offered under a Creative Commons license. Images are resized or displayed with a crop to fit the layout. District listings may show the wider destination. Aerial imagery is labelled and shows the area around the approximate catalog location.
