GET TO KNOW THE PLACE

A little more about Banff Upper Hot Springs.

Banff Upper Hot Springs are commercially developed hot springs located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, near the Banff townsite. Europeans first became aware of the springs in 1883. As it has been developed since, the hot pool is outdoors and while in the pool, visitors can look across the valley to Mount Rundle. It is located at 1,585 metres (5,200 ft) of elevation, which makes it the highest hot spring in Canada.

The facility's opening schedule and maintenance closures can change. Check Parks Canada before travelling. Bathing temperature is controlled and differs from the spring source.

  • Visitors travelling during the announced maintenance closure
  • Anyone expecting advance reservations

Check the closure first

Parks Canada announces maintenance from October 13 to early November. Reopening is not confirmed by that approximate date; check the official page before setting out.

Pay at reception

Entry is first-come, first-served, with no online reservations. Published single-entry fees are CAD 19.75 adult and CAD 17.25 youth aged 3–17 or senior; under-threes enter free. A locker token is included. Towel and swimsuit rental cost extra.

Ask about the route that suits you

Parks Canada describes an entrance ramp, elevator, accessible changing rooms and an aquatic wheelchair on request. Elevator dimensions restrict some powered chairs; manual doors remain on the pool route. Confirm equipment availability before travelling.

Consider the bus

Our planning suggestion

Roam Route 1 serves the facility. Editorial suggestion: compare the current transit timetable with the reopening notice before planning a visit.

What we still need to confirm

These gaps are worth checking if they affect your trip.

  • Confirmed reopening date and current operating hours
  • Availability of the aquatic wheelchair and assistance on your visit
  • Recent visitor-review sample
